A horizontal composition divides pale sky from a dense, dark foreground. The upper register is built from soft greys and whites, textured with fine cloud-like marks and applied with visible palette knife strokes. Below the horizon, black and deep brown tones dominate, broken by a thin streak of gold. Contrast is high between the light sky and the near-black land mass, with a heavily worked, tactile surface throughout.
